KICKING HORSE PASS Canadian Pacific's Laggan Sub

KICKING HORSE PASS Canadian Pacific's Laggan Sub

22.00

The southern Canadian Rockies are a breathtaking spectacle shouldering the Continental Divide and boundary of British Columbia and Alberta, Canada. Topped with glaciers and surrounded by emerald lakes and rivers, their beauty is beyond pictures or words.

For those who built the Canadian Pacific, these mountains were the ultimate obstacle to overcome. The route they chose was the difficult ascent over Kicking Horse Pass. Known to railroaders as "The Big Hill", Canadian Pacific trains have been climbing this grade since 1884 and it is still an amazing sight today!

Beginning at Field, BC, we follow the Laggan Sub east to Exshaw, Alberta. Watch trains battle the 2.2% grade above the Kicking Horse River, pass through the incredible Spiral Tunnels, and sprint along the bank of the scenic Bow River. See 10,000 foot stack trains, unit grain, potash, and mixed manifests. We also catch The Rocky Mountaineer, Canada's premiere passenger train. There's nothing like mountain railroading in the Canadian Rockies!

This program was shot in June, September, and October 2014.

Classic Burlington Northern, Volume 1

Classic Burlington Northern, Volume 1

19.00

The Burlington Northern Railroad was the product of a March 2nd, 1970, merger of four major railroads, the Great Northern Railway, Northern Pacific Railway, Spokane, Portland and Seattle Railway and the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad. In this series, we feature the films of Fred Crissey, who traveled to many areas along the BN's route in the central United States in the late 1970's and 1980's with his 8-millimeter movie film camera.

In Volume 1, Fred travels to the states of Wyoming, Montana, Washington, Illinois, Colorado, New Mexico and Texas.

Cascade green and black locomotives are seen in such locations as Wyoming's Wind River Canyon, Montana's Bozeman and Mullen Pass and Skykomish, Washington. You have to see the action Fred captured while riding in a suburban commuter train between Aurora and Chicago, Illinois when the BN was using their fleet of E-9's. We finish the show along the Foothills of the Rocky Mountains and follow the old Colorado & Southern and the Fort Worth & Denver between Trinidad, Colorado and Dalhart, Texas.

This program showcases the BN at a time when they were growing and expanding since the 1970 merger. If you are a fan of the Cascade Green, you won't want to miss Classic Burlington Northern, Volume 1!

Canada's FRASER CANYON

Canada's FRASER CANYON

21.00

Travel with 7idea Productions to beautiful British Columbia, Canada where both Canadian Pacific and Canadian National traverse the rugged Fraser Canyon. Cutting a deep swath through the Cascade Range, this is an important link in the trans-Canada rail network connecting Vancouver with Montreal.

This program follows each line's course along opposite banks of the Fraser River between Hope and the confluence with the Thompson River at Lytton. These competing railways operate jointly in the canyon. Eastbounds use Canadian Pacific's Cascade and Thompson Subdivisions, while westbounds travel over Canadian National's Ashcroft and Yale Subs.

One of the many highlights of the canyon are the Cisco Bridges where both railways cross the river with the CN flying over the CP. Our summer and winter visits reveal the grand seasonal contrast of the canyon's appearance. Add to that a great variety of trains from hot shot intermodals, to coal, grain, potash, mixed merchandise, and the Rocky Mountaineer and you will know why railfans the world over love visiting Canada's Fraser Canyon! The Toledo interurbans last ran in December 1949. The interurbans were a great loss to a city that was a major transportation hub in its own right. They would be replaced by buses, but nothing could replace the feeling of riding a trolley to work or taking the family to a movie by trolley. Today there is very little that remains of the interurban lines. Sometimes the old rails are visible when street repairs are being made. Toledo Trolleys was written to preserve the rich history of the trolleys that served citizens faithfully for many years.

Price: 9.00

This book picks up where Kansas Central Narrow Gauge leaves off in telling the history of the rail line that ran from Leavenworth to Miltonvale, Kansas. A few years after converting from narrow gauge to standard gauge, the Union Pacific-controlled Kansas Central was purchased at a foreclosure auction for $200,000 and rechristened the Leavenworth, Kansas & Western, with plans to expand the line to the western border of Kansas and northward into Nebraska. But financial woes dogged the line and in 1908 it was sold to the Union Pacific. Improved highway transportation and losses spurred by the Great Depression caused the UP to abandon nearly all of the LK&W line in 1935
